Set the Initial Number of Tags Displayed

Learn how to limit the number of tags shown when a page loads and let visitors expand the full list.

Available on the Regular Plan only.

Setting an initial tag count limits how many tags are shown when a page loads. This is useful when too many tags are displayed and the layout looks cluttered. Tags beyond the limit are hidden and can be revealed by clicking the Show all button.

  1. Go to Shopify Admin → "Online Store" → "Themes" → "Customize"

  2. Select the page type (blogs, collections, products, or blog posts)

  3. Click the "Tag list (Regular Plan)" app block to select it

  4. Enter the number of tags to show initially in "Initial number of tags displayed"

  5. Set the Show all button text in "Show all button"

  6. Click "Save"

Enter the maximum number of tags to display when the page loads. Tags beyond this count are hidden and can be revealed by clicking the Show all button. Leave blank to show all tags.

The button that appears when the number of tags exceeds the initial count. The button text can be changed from the app block (default: Show all). The color can be configured under "Color | Show all button."

The initial number of tags displayed must be configured separately for each template. If you want different counts for blogs, collections, products, and blog posts, set them individually in each template's app block.

Can I set the same initial number of tags displayed across all templates?

The initial number of tags displayed is an app block setting and must be configured separately for each template. Please set it individually in each template (blogs, collections, products, and blog posts).

I have set an initial number of tags displayed, but the Show all button is not appearing — why?

The Show all button only appears when the number of tags on the page exceeds the initial count. Please check that the actual number of tags on your products or articles is greater than the value you have set.
