If you cannot open a product, collection, blog, or blog post template in the theme editor, confirm that at least one applicable item is published. The template may not appear when no published content exists.
Prepare the following published content for the template you want to open.
Template | Required content | Where to create it |
|---|---|---|
Product | At least one published product | Shopify admin → Products |
Collection | At least one published collection | Shopify admin → Products → Collections |
Blog | At least one blog | Shopify admin → Content → Blog posts → Manage blogs |
Blog post | At least one published blog post | Shopify admin → Content → Blog posts |
Note: If only draft products or draft blog posts exist, the corresponding template may not appear. Publish content that you can use for verification.
(1) Create the applicable content
Use the table above to create a product, collection, blog, or blog post for the template you want to open.
(2) Publish the applicable content

(3) Open the template in the theme editor
From Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes → Customize and select the applicable template again.
