Cannot Access a Template

Troubleshoot a product, collection, blog, or blog post template that cannot be opened.

If you cannot open a product, collection, blog, or blog post template in the theme editor, confirm that at least one applicable item is published. The template may not appear when no published content exists.

Prepare the following published content for the template you want to open.

Template

Required content

Where to create it

Product

At least one published product

Shopify admin → Products

Collection

At least one published collection

Shopify admin → Products → Collections

Blog

At least one blog

Shopify admin → Content → Blog posts → Manage blogs

Blog post

At least one published blog post

Shopify admin → Content → Blog posts

Note: If only draft products or draft blog posts exist, the corresponding template may not appear. Publish content that you can use for verification.

(1) Create the applicable content

Use the table above to create a product, collection, blog, or blog post for the template you want to open.

(2) Publish the applicable content

If you created a product or blog post, make it available to the online store.

(3) Open the template in the theme editor

From Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes → Customize and select the applicable template again.

Check: The process is complete when the applicable content is published and its template appears in the theme editor.
